Session 14 Combating Stigma and Discrimination
Track
Cross-Cutting
Stigma and discrimination are major barriers to implementing treatment, care and prevention programmes in countries. This session will highlight the work of the Stigma Index – a tool designed to gather evidence from PLHIV regarding stigma and discrimination they have experienced, with the aim to inform policy and programmes. A general description of the Stigma Index will be followed by a country example of the roll out of the Index. A short presentation will place stigma and discrimination within the context of the criminalization of HIV: transmission, related behaviors, travel restrictions, etc.
